Do you have an apartment or live in a hotel like complex? Have you got air conditioning? There are many different types of air conditioners for apartments and sometimes it is hard to know what system will work best. Below are some hints ant tips for getting air conditioning in an apartment.
Firstly, most apartments have no roof space unless you are on the very top floor. Because of this ducted air conditioning is not an option as there is nowhere to run the ducting. This means you need to have a ductless (wall split) unit as your apartment air conditioner.
Wall Split (Ductless)
Some commercial projects allow for ductless units during construction. Some either include them in the apartment, whilst others may run pipes behind walls for you so you can add your own air conditioner at a later date. Usually these air conditioner refrigerant pipes will be a certain size which will limit what size and brand of air conditioner you will be able to choose. Speak with the apartments manager to obtain information or plans to see if any air conditioning allowances were made during the construction period.

Wall Split (Ductless) Air Conditioners For Apartments
Once the apartments air conditioning unit is on the wall, you generally need to run your drains somewhere. Most apartments have a tongue dish which is basically a drain located usually on the balcony. This drain can usually be plumbed into this location.
The outdoor compressor component of a ductless air conditioning unit usually needs to be placed on a balcony of an apartment complex. You may need to speak with the owners of the complex to make sure you have permission to install an air conditioner here
Multisplits
If you need multiple indoor units (for example 2 or 3 bedrooms), you may need to use something which is known as a multi-split. Here, several indoor units (head unit’s) run off a single outdoor compressor. The benefit of a multi split air conditioning system is that you do not have to have a single outdoor compressor for each indoor unit. This is especially relevant for apartment air conditioning as you cannot usually fit more that one compressor on a balcony, which is where the compressors are usually located
Box Or Window Air Conditioners
Other air conditioners for apartments include simple box or window air conditioners, or portable units.

Box (Wall Mounted) Apartment Air Conditioner
Box/window units can usually cool and heat one room although they can be a little noisy and ugly looking. Portable units however are largely ineffective at cooling or heating a room and can be quite costly to run.
